Symbolism

Daffodil – “Self Love”

The daffodil is one of the first signs of spring, but it also has deep roots in Greek mythology.

Narcissus was warned by an oracle never to look at his own reflection. But one day he saw himself mirrored in water and became completely captivated by the image staring back at him. Unable to look away, he remained there until the gods eventually turned him into what we now know as the daffodil.

From this story comes the idea of narcissism, but I like to interpret the symbol in a softer way — as a reminder of self love, something many of us could use a little more of.

In folklore the daffodil represents:

• Rebirth & transformation
• Spring
