As I mentioned in my first blog post [linked here], every Wild Minder piece has its own unique journey. The creative process always starts with being present in nature, this could be at a nature reserve, while camping, or even just out and about. It begins with a moment, one that captures my attention and feels too special to let go.
The Beginning
That moment is first captured through my camera, allowing me to hold onto it and revisit it later. Once I’m home, I review the day’s photos and carefully decide if any of them inspire me enough to take the next step. If something stands out, I begin by painting it in watercolor or digitally. This allows me to break down the colours and shapes in my mind helping me bring the image to life with a new perspective.
The Next Steps
Sometimes, though, I want to take the design even further. That’s when I move on to free-motion embroidery, this process is like drawing with a sewing machine. I'm moving the material beneath the needle, deciding where each stitch should be placed.
Before I start stitching, I create a silk painting to serve as the background for the embroidered design. The silk painting adds depth and vibrancy, creating a unique base for the free-motion embroidery. Once I begin embroidery, every stitch adds texture and detail. These stitches bring the design to life, they transform it into a one-of-a-kind piece. I then incorporate this design into a denim jacket, creating a truly unique item of clothing that is deeply connected to nature.
Each piece I create carries the memory of that original moment in nature whether it is a watercolour print or an embroidered design. It’s a way to honor the beauty around us and share it with others who feel the same connection. View my full gallery here.
